About me
Hi! I’m glad you’re here!
I’m Greta, a cross-genre speculative fiction writer based in the Midwest. I write stories of enchantment, loss, and the uncanny, often set in a world rife with monsters.
I’m also a developmental editor at Labyrinth Editing, which I started in 2023.
When I’m not writing or editing, you can find me telling stories with data in my university library cubicle, cooking for my friends, or playing Dungeons & Dragons.
What to expect from Rough Draft
I’ve always been someone who subscribes heavily to the sentiment that “to know what I think, I have to see what I say.”
Rough Draft is a place for me to puzzle through my thoughts on writing speculative fiction and navigating the practice of making art in a culture that’s often fast and noisy, the opposite of what I need to focus in and make something with depth and meaning.
Stay up-to-date
You’ll get updates about Project Alchemy, the adult stand-alone fantasy I’m currently developing. This story takes place in the Severed Realms - half of a broken world where men were once immortal and creatures from beyond the stars threaten its denizens’ very existence. You can expect Beowulf vibes, sibling bonds, ill-fated oaths, and music with mystical power.
I’ll also share occasional snippets of flash fiction and news about any publications or podcast appearances.
Learn what fuels my writing
I’ll share what’s been inspiring me and filling my creative well - anything from media like books, TV shows and movies, podcasts, and video games to practices like getting out in nature, or the systems and routines I use to support my creative practice.
Find some creative community
I’ll do my best to shout work from those in my writerly circles or highlight writing here on Substack that I’ve found helpful or thought-provoking.
I’d also love to engage in conversation, either in comments or replies to the newsletter to hear your thoughts in response to my speculative ramblings. Writing can be a solitary practice, but it’s hard (if not impossible) to make art in true isolation. I hope that by sharing the ups and downs of my writing journey, you’ll find that you’re not alone.
